Cockenzie and Port Seton ((Middle Scots: Cockenȝie, the "ȝ" being the letter yogh, pronounced locally "Koh-kinn-ie"; Scottish Gaelic: Cùl Choinnich, meaning cove of Kenneth.[1])is a unified town in East Lothian, Scotland, situated on the coast of the Firth of Forth, four miles north east of Musselburgh. The burgh of Cockenzie was created in 1591 by James VI of Scotland. Port Seton harbour was built by George Seton, 11th Lord Seton between 1655 and 1665. Tranent Tranent is a town in East Lothian, Scotland. It is close to the A1 road and approximately 11 miles (18 km) east of Edinburgh. It is one of the oldest towns in East Lothian, and built on a gentle slope, about 300 feet above sea level. Prestonpans Prestonpans is a small town to the east of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the unitary council area of East Lothian. It has a population of 7,153 (East Lothian Council Census, 2001). It is the site of the 1745 Battle of Prestonpans, and has a history dating back to the 11th century. The town boasts some impressive examples of historical architecture, such as the Preston Tower and the doocot and the local Mercat Cross, which is the only one of its kind in Scotland which remains in its original form and location.[citation needed] The town is also credited for achieving the title as "Scotlands Mural Town" with many wall murals reflecting the towns colourful past.
